Front-wing size is often the first specification riders compare. The most useful number is area in cm², but area alone cannot tell you how a foil will perform. Span, chord, profile and aspect ratio all matter.
Area vs. span vs. aspect ratio
Area is the wing's projected lifting surface. Span is the width from wingtip to wingtip. Aspect ratio (AR) describes how long and narrow a wing is relative to its area. The manufacturer's numeric model name is not always the area: the GY 1500 V2 has 1,510 cm² while GY 1700 V2 has 1,997 cm².

Which size for pump foil?
Larger wings with ample lift can help maintain flight at lower speeds. Intermediate pump riders often explore more efficient high-aspect designs to extend glide. A high aspect ratio is not a universal upgrade: technique, rider weight, water depth and turning goals change what works best.
Which size for wing foil or waves?
Wing-foil freeride sizing depends strongly on wind, board volume, pilot mass and ability. Surf- and wake-foil selection is driven by wave speed, energy and the turning response desired. There is no single ideal area for all riders.
